Pathology department

Anatomical pathology department provides an umbrella of diagnostic services that encompass routine anatomical pathology consultations for both medico-legal cases and surgical pathology cases; histopathology and cytology interpretation of all surgical and gynecological specimens (our turn-around time for small and large biopsies is a maximum of seven days). The department is closely affiliated to other diagnostic disciplines including main laboratory and radiology. There are also special techniques available: immunohistochemistry panel for breast, lymphomas and sarcomas. The service is an essential diagnostic tool for our community. Our mortuary wing provides cold room for storage, treatment and embedding of the deceased, last office service; mini- autopsy, clinical and medico- legal autopsies.

History of pathology department 

The pathology department was established in 2007 under the leadership and mentorship of Dr. Gerhard Stauch, a renowned German pathologist who lives now in Germany. Currently there is one pathologist, Dr. T. E Brown who collaborates with Dr. Stauch and other German pathologists via Ipath Tepepathology network. Dr. T. E Brown also collaborates with other renowned pathologists from Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Soft Med in Arusha, and Good Samaritan Cancer Hospital in Ifakara.
